Portable data collection terminals are small battery powered computers with their own operating systems. They can run software to solve customised data collection tasks. Many terminals also include integrated barcode scanners or have ports where external scanners can be connected. Communicating data with other computers is done either through a cable connection, a docking station or by radio link.

Percon PT 2000 Data Terminal with Top Gun laser scanner

Percons PT 2000 portable data terminal provides an easy to use solution for many data collection functions such as asset tracking, inventory checking, shipping & receiving etc. Excellent software support makes customising the portable data collection software easy. Percon also manufacture a suite of common data collection database packages that run under Windows, providing a complete solution. The slim ergonomic design with optional, reverse-able Top Gun laser module allows one handed scanning with either hand.

Features:
- a four line by 16 character LCD display
- 34 key splash resistant full alphanumeric keypad with four programmable function keys
- a standard 128Kb data storage memory, upgradeable to 2Mb.

PT Dock: Data is downloaded to a PC either through a connector cable or with the PT Dock charger / data transfer docking station. It can be connected to either a PC serial port or as a keyboard wedge. The dock is also a battery charger station for the re-chargeable NiCad batteries. The docking station uses spring loaded electrical contacts with a contact plate on the bottom of the PT 2000 that eliminate the wear that would otherwise arise from connecting and disconnecting cables over a period of time.

Software: PAL (Portable Application Library) is a collection of seven commonly used applications, including inventory control, asset management and item tracking. PAL is provided free with every PT 2000  / Top Gun, enabling users to begin scanning straight away. For more advanced applications or to modify the PAL programs there is the PPG.
